Muse Air Pilot Hat Badge First Officer Wing

Dallas, TX 1981-1986

Muse Air's name originates from its founder, Marion Lamar Muse. The company was first established as a Texas-based commuter on July 15, 1981. An air traffic controller's strike almost immediately made things difficult for the company. On June 25, 1985 Southwest Airlines acquired Muse Air and Muse Air continued to operate as a separate airline. The company was not able to generate a consistent profit. In February 1986 its name changed to "TranStar". At its peak, TranStar employed some 900 people and served 14 cities. The company continued to lose money and on Augut 9, 1987, operations were shut shut down.
